Electrical Fixed Wiring Testing (EICR) and PAT Testing became mandatory for Private Rented Properties in Scotland in December 2015.
New Smoke/Heat/Carbon detection legislation was introduced in May 2014.
This applies to all Private Rented Properties.

Do you have plugs still in use like the old style plug to the left above on appliances perhaps such as standard lamps, older garden and household equipment - if so then these old style plugs place the end user at a higher risk of shock due to the non-insulating plug pins.
Notice the black insulating shields on the two pins of the new style plug top right - the new plugs are designed like this so that when the plug is not fully inserted into the socket outlet then any part of the pins on view and exposed are insulated so metal cannot be touched reducing the electric shock risk. This safety feature is not on older plugs meaning a higher shock risk when not fully inserted into a socket outlet.

It's been a good few weeks since our last website blog post and while we do intend to keep our blog post updates regular sometimes our busy job schedule just takes over and rightly our attention is focused on delivering a high standard of work as well as customer service.
One of the jobs that we have been focusing on was the installation of a new commercial fire alarm system as well as emergency lighting at a church near Stirling.
Our team of electricians and engineers did a fantastic job installing the systems to not only help protect the users of the building but the cabling and equipment was installed unobtrusively keeping in mind the nature of the building.
Our electrical, fire and security services can help you meet various health and safety regulations and we would be delighted to help with your requirements so please contact us.
Some photos of our fire alarm and emergency lighting installation job are below.
As training course venues go it's hard to beat Hampden Park.
Every electrician whether they work at a company or self employed who undertake work in or around your home or business property in Scotland should have a valid SJIB ECS grade card.
If they don't have a valid grade card then there is a very high risk they are not qualified to current electrical regulations or health and safety awareness.
Every proper electrician will carry their current valid grade card with them to every job so make sure you ask to see it before they carry out work.
Don't Risk It. #ElectricityCanKill
In the news this week was an article on the effectiveness of existing domestic smoke alarms to wake up children and that further in-depth research was about to start.
Initial studies indicated that a large percentage of children slept through the noise of the existing beeping sounding alarms but children were more likely to wake up with a lower pitch sound alongside a woman's voice.
Our company installs and tests thousands of smoke and heat alarms each year so this story grabbed my attention and I knew I would be curious to eventually find out the results of this further research and after dialogue it looks like we will be involved in the new research to find out what type of and what level of sounds wake up children more effectively.
On the streets of Scotland this coming week will be our new van branded with our electrical services.
This vehicle is the latest of our fleet to be changed to white with our new branding.
The first journey will take the van to a 3 day visit to Isle of Bute.
Look out also for our security system branded vehicles.
One year on from our successful assessment to become an approved member of security system accreditation company NSI, I am delighted that we have today passed our annual assessment.
Accreditation is important to us and along with our membership of SELECT, Which Trusted Traders, Scottish Building Standards and Buy With Confidence, our NSI membership in 2016 was one of the top highlights of the companies 20 years.
We value the feedback we receive from these technical and office audits as it helps us improve the services that we provide to our customers.
Thank you to all our team who have put in the hard work in gaining approval from all these highly respected organisations.
