Electrician Training

25/4/2017

Every electrician whether they work at a company or self employed who undertake work in or around your home or business property in Scotland should have a valid SJIB ECS grade card.

If they don't have a valid grade card then there is a very high risk they are not qualified to current electrical regulations or health and safety awareness.

Every proper electrician will carry their current valid grade card with them to every job so make sure you ask to see it before they carry out work.

Invest in an Apprenticeship

24/7/2016

Like Charlie Mullins the successful plumber from Pimlico, London I believe the credit and value of apprenticeships is not promoted enough within schools and career advice.

University is not for everyone whether that be for a personal or exam result reasons but we need to move away from the Modern Apprenticeship option being seen as a second rate lesser option.

Especially within trade apprenticeships -  electrical, plumbing, joinery, if you put the effort into not only your initial apprenticeship but also your continual ongoing learning thereafter, your trade apprenticeship will really give you excellent value for the rest of your working life.

It's good to see from the article below that the problem with the promotion of apprenticeships is now an issue and hopefully we can start educating the school system and personnel within that there is much more to a successful working life other than a University education.

New Apprentice

I am delighted that today our new apprentice Craig McKenzie begins his employment with Stirling Electrical Services.

Craig a local lad from Cowie had school work experience with our company in early 2014 and also over the recent summer months. During those periods he proved reliable, good mannered and trustworthy - three essential core skills for employment in my company.

Apprenticeships have always played a very important role not only in my development but throughout my company since 1996.

Craig begins his college work on Tuesday and we look forward to updates on his progress in the coming months.

Helping The Next Generation

This week we have had a young lad working with us on work experience and he has shown good timekeeping and attitude skills and we will invite him for more work experience during the year if he wishes to do take us up on the offer.

We usually employ apprentices every other year and we will be having more work experience opportunities that not only helps out the next generation in gaining "real world" experience it also helps us get to know youngsters before we seriously consider taking them on for apprenticeships.

Scottish Electrical Apprentices

I have always believed that electrical apprentices in Scotland get a reasonable apprenticeship under the guidance of SECTT and this latest initiative of free lockout kits in conjunction with the Electrical Safety Council is another example.

I myself underwent a four year apprenticeship in the early 90's and at SES we have had a number of apprentices throughout the years including Apprentice of the Year awards. Trading times are still tricky but it's good to see the training organisations doing all they can to help and bring through the next generation of electricians.
